In order to allow a viable future for the coastal communities of the St. Lawrence, the Côtes à Côtes project facing coastal risks is proposed to you. A series of thematic sheets address different aspects of coastal risks in order to answer your questions.
A NATURAL HERITAGE BETWEEN THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT AND THE TERRESTRIAL ENVIRONMENT
The coasts of the St. Lawrence are very diverse. The barachois of Baie-des-Chaleurs, the rocky cliffs of Gaspésie, the dunes of Îles-de-la-Madeleine, the sandy and clay cliffs of the North Shore, the marshes of the Bas-Saint-Laurent are just a few. examples.
A CONSTANTLY CHANGING LANDSCAPE
In recent years, the retreat of the coasts of the St. Lawrence seems to be increasing. In the context of current climate change, rising sea levels combined with human activities will accentuate this trend.
TO BETTER INTERVENE, KNOW AND PREVENT THE RISK
Coastal risk prevention requires a strategic approach in which several people from different backgrounds work together to build a viable future for the communities of the St. Lawrence.
TO BETTER MANAGE SOME DETAILS ON THE LEGISLATIVE FRAMEWORK
Interventions near the coast or on the coast carried out for private purposes require the obtaining of permits or municipal certificates. It is the responsibility of the project promoter to obtain all the required authorizations before undertaking interventions on the coast.
